DIRECT LINE – WEDNESDAY 7:30 PM

We are joined this week on Direct Line live by Charles County Republican Party Chairman Nicole Bennett.  Nicole has been the Chairman for Charles County for the past two and a half years.  Recently Nicole was elected Chairman of the Maryland Black Republicans Council (BRC).

The first Black woman to Chair a Republican Central Committee in Maryland, Bennett excels as a Healthcare Executive for a group of Internal Medicine Physicians. Nicole makes her home in Southern Maryland where she is an avid volunteer. Bennett has volunteered with her local Literacy Council, Red Cross and Jaycees to improve the quality of life for Southern Marylanders. With more than 25 years of leading medical practices to success, Bennett also serves as the Chairman of the National Advisory Board for the Professional Association of Health Care Office Management where she assists other Healthcare managers and administrators to realize their full potential. Nicole is passionate about politics and strengthening our communities. Her guiding principles are respect for life, self-determination and the pursuit of happiness.

We will discuss all things politics happening in Charles County as well as her vision for the BRC going forward.

MARYLAND’S TEACHERS UNION COVID-19 DEMANDS WILL INCREASE EDUCATIONAL INEQUALITY

By Mark Uncapher

Maryland’s teachers’ unions presented their demands earlier in July for using distance learning exclusively during at least the first half of the 2020-21 school year.[i] Within a matter of days afterward, districts, such as Montgomery County’s school system, responded and reversed their tentative reopening plans. They opted instead for an all virtual, online fall semester.

This decision ignored expert advice, including the oft-cited reliance on “science,” touted as guiding COVID-19 pandemic policy responses.

BIDEN, DEFUNDING COPS AND A FEW OTHER THOUGHTS ON AMERICA’S SUMMER OF DISCONTENT

By Bob Ehrlich

Today’s chameleon-like Joe Biden would not recognize his 35-year voting record in the Senate, and not just because Joe has a difficult time remembering anything these days.

That Biden was the reflexively left-leaning “Amtrak Joe” — a Northeastern liberal operating squarely within the Teddy Kennedy wing of the party. Today’s knockoff takes his cues from the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie, and Beto — placing him squarely within the neo-socialist wing of his party.

Biden’s sudden left turn recalls the similar journey of Hillary Clinton at this point in her campaign. It may be difficult to believe now, but for most of her political life Hillary also operated on the Democrats’ traditional labor-left island — that is until she decided to drink the progressive Kool-Aid during her fall campaign.

CROP CHEMICAL COURT DECISION IS BIG VICTORY FOR AGRICULTURE

By Gary Baise

Last week, two judges of the 9th Circuit ruled in favor of keeping Corteva’s Enlist Duo, an herbicide designed to kill weeds on corn, soybean and cotton fields, on the market.

Enlist Duo combines two chemicals, 2,4-D and glyphosate. The case came about on a petition for review of an order of the EPA.

That is a victory for agriculture, and in so many cases, agriculture wins or loses based on the judges that make these decisions. That’s why I took a closer look at the three judges on the case.

NO TO THE 1040 AND YES TO THE FLAT TAX

By Adam Schmidt

This past week millions of Americans paid their taxes, so that porkers like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer can have his subsidies.  Not that Schumer is alone, or that only Democrats are guilty.

While Senator Schumer was busy of thinking of new ways to tax us, and even more outrageous forms of spending, Americans were spending an average of ten hours to fill out the long 1040 Form with all the silly schedules.  Those lucky enough to be able to use Form 1040-EZ were only spending 6 hours on average to do their taxes.
