An Ask About Masks

So … I dutifully put on a mask as I enter the store. Why? Because the sign says I must. Because everyone else does. Because I want to shop. Because I need meat and I do not want to be put out of the store.

… But I am vaccinated!

I’ve been told I must continue to wear a mask because the vaccine in only 97% effective… Well, the measle vaccine is only 97% effective and I have not been wearing a measles mask all my life?? What about flu vaccines? According to https://www.cdc.gov/flu/vaccines-work/vaccineeffect.htm

“During seasons when the flu vaccine viruses are similar to circulating flu viruses, flu vaccine has been shown to reduce the risk of having to go to the doctor with flu by 40 percent to 60 percent.”

Still, we haven’t been wearing masks during the flu season.

How long are the mask theatrics going to last?

We recently inquired about going on a cruise in the fall of 2021. But we were told we would have to agree to wear a mask the whole time we are on the ship. I guess we’ll check again later … obviously I am not going to wear a mask for a whole cruise or stay in my room. We may have to again cancel the trip we put on hold last year when the cruise we planned was cancelled.

And the rules do not make any sense. Who is enforcing the rule on how many times you can wear a mask? Judging from the way some masks look, no one. People store masks in coat pockets and car compartments or in a drawer in the house. I am quite sure not all cloth masks are washed after each wearing. Is that healthy? How many times can a mask be used and still be effective? After multiple wears does a mask do more harm than good?

Why is it you have to wear a mask as you walk into or out of a restaurant but when you are seated at a table you can take it off? Are we less vulnerable when sitting?  Does COVID know you are eating? What about a person who just joins a group at a table but does not eat?

Are you less able to contract the disease when you are rioting and burning down buildings?

How can Nancy Pelosi get her hair done without a mask or how can Gavin Newsom attend a large dinner party?

Please don’t get me wrong, I am NOT advocating for more masks. I am saying, I don’t think they are necessary, especially after a person has been vaccinated.

In the February 2021 issue of IMPRIMIS, a publication of Hillsdale College, Stanford’s Jay Bhattacharya was quoted as saying:

“Mask mandates are not supported by the scientific data… there is no scientific evidence that mask mandates work to slow the spread of the disease.”

They also quoted WHO’s advice on the use of masks in the context of COVID with the following statement:

“At present there is no direct evidence (from studies on COVID-19 and in healthy people in the community) on the effectiveness of universal masking of healthy people in the community to prevent infection with respiratory viruses, including COVIS-19.”

For years, every time I saw videos of people in China perpetually running around wearing masks, I felt sorry for people living under the control of Communism who were not allowed to think for themselves. Now I am required to wear a mask if I want meat for dinner.

What is the next thing we are ALL going to be told to do… (for our own good?)

Are we really looking for herd immunity or are we just becoming a herd?
