Senator Rand Paul’s 2020 Republican National Convention Speech

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky spoke on the second night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 25, 2020. Paul praised the president’s record on criminal justice and tax policy, adding that he worked with the president to pass “a true tax cut.” The 2017 tax legislation does provide relief for most Americans in the early years immediately following its passage, but every income group below $75,000 will ultimately see a tax increase by 2027, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation. Republicans planned a mix of virtual and in-person events in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., for its nominating convention after the coronavirus pandemic interrupted plans for a traditional nominating event.
