TAXES IN MARYLAND ARE TOO HIGH
|I join Governor Hogan in calling for a reduction in taxes for retirees and I will be co-sponsoring this bill. This measure will make the first $50,000 of income for retirees tax-free and significantly reduce the taxes on income under $100,000. Too often, grandma and grandpa are moving to Delaware or even Florida because the weather is great and there are NO state income taxes.
Kiplinger magazine rates the best and worst places to retire. Unfortunately, Maryland consistently ranks near the bottom. In the Feb 2022 issue on tax friendliness of the 50 states, MD is a “least tax-friendly.” MD’s taxes are too high on everyone and these taxes have an especially large impact on retirees on a fixed income.
